About this site
Who builds it, where the figures come from, and what this site deliberately is not.
Who runs it
Financial Calculator is built and maintained by James Burfield, an SEO consultant and web publisher who runs SEOBurf (Burfield Digital Limited) and a portfolio of UK data and reference sites built on published government figures. More background is on his profile page.
He is not a financial adviser, and nothing here is financial advice. What he brings is a different discipline: every rate on this site is held as data with a link to the official source and the date it was last checked, the build refuses to publish on stale figures, and every calculator engine is verified against the government's own published tables before it goes live. The how we calculate page lists each source and check date.
Why the site exists
Most UK calculator pages are marketing furniture: a widget bolted onto an adviser's site, England-only maths quietly applied to Scottish and Welsh purchases, last year's thresholds left up because nobody owns the numbers. This site exists to be the boring opposite. Correct rates, all four nations where the rules differ, sources shown, and no product to sell you at the end of it.
What it will not do
No product recommendations, no lender comparisons, no referral links to brokers or advisers, and no pretending arithmetic is advice. If a calculation matters to a real decision, check it against the official source linked on the page, and get regulated advice where the stakes deserve it.
What we hold about you
Nothing, and the privacy page is genuinely that short: no analytics, no cookies of our own, calculations that never leave your browser.
Found a wrong figure?
That is the one thing worth interrupting anyone's day for. Tell us with the exact inputs you used, and it gets rechecked against the source and fixed.
